Vietnam helps the United States grow its wet blue leather exports

Wet Blue Leather is leather that has been tanned with chrome but has not been dried, dyed or finished. The leather at this stage is blue in colour.

Figures for the first four months of 2024 show that although the total volume of US leather exports decreased compared to the same period last year (down 6.5% in volume and down 1.5% in value), the volume of Wet Blue leather exports continued to increase.

The US exported a total of more than 9 million leathers in the period from January to April this year. This resulted in export revenue of $370.3 million.

Compared to the same period last year, this year's Wet Blue leather export figures increased significantly, by about 26% in volume and 22% in value.

Vietnam imported more than 475,000 Wet Blue hides from the United States in the period from January to April 2024, with a value of $136 million. These figures represent an increase of 108% in volume and 107% in value.
