Sustainable Moves In The Footwear Industry

They argue that billions of pairs of shoes are produced each year but recycling rates are low. Therefore, it is necessary to work with some well-known brands to do the following:
- Identify sustainable materials
- Establish traceability
- Agree on circularity definitions for designs
- Improve disposal methods when footwear is not in use
Senior Vice President of Adidas Sigrid Buehrle said: "Currently, the list of these materials is limited. This initiative helps brands and footwear manufacturers identify environmentally sustainable materials."
In 2021, sustainability consultant Veronica Bates Kassatly said: "The most durable shoe material is still leather. The one that would otherwise be wasted in a landfill."
Recently, Adidas has collaborated with Los Angeles-based Brain Dead to launch leather tennis shoes.
Previously, Adidas has also appeared with football coach José Mourinho with a suede upper.
If more footwear brands choose to use leather, which is thrown away after people have used the cow's meat and milk, it will save a lot of raw materials. This means no or less use of alternative materials, such as faux leather. These are synthetic alternatives that create difficult problems for the environment.
