Hig MSI 2024: Environmental Impact of Cowhide Reduced by 60%

In 2020, the impact of the leather industry on the environment was 36.8 points on the Higg scale. By 2024, this index has decreased to 14.6 points (a decrease of more than 60%).

These indicators are measured from the life cycle data of genuine leather from the Leather Working Group and Leather Naturally (organisations aiming at sustainable development in the leather industry). In addition, data is collected from more than 45 production facilities in 18 countries. All of this data is sent to Higg.

This shows that the leather industry has been working hard to improve sustainability standards, creating an environmentally friendly supply chain.

With the leather industry's continuous efforts to improve sustainability, the Higg MSI 2024 Index is a clear testament to the positive changes we are witnessing.

Cowhide, a traditional material, now has more positive environmental indicators, reflecting advances in production processes and the application of global environmental protection standards.
